The Most Important Election of Our Time!

This country is electing a new chief executive, but the most important election of this nation will be the election of 468 members of Congress. While the President is the leader of this nation, his or her powers are limited.A review of the job posting for President of the United States reveals that the Congress holds most of the power in this land.Yet we seem to think that the President can single handedly make sweeping change and right the wrongs of this nation. Perhaps we had better look at the other 468 elections and spend as much time on those elections as we plan to spend on the Presidential election.

Congress has spent us into oblivion – yes the Republican and now the Democratic Congress.Congress refuses to eliminate earmarks.Congress refuses to address illegal immigration effectively.Congress will not address social security.Congress will not address health care - with the exception of H.R. 676.Congress declares (authorizes) War.Only the House of Representative may originate bills to tax us.Congress taxes us and continues to spend us into bigger deficits. The Congress manages our trade tariffs and import Duties.Congress makes the rules for the Government. This list goes on and on.

Seems to me that the Congressional election is more important to this nation that the Presidential election – not to say that the election of a President is a minimal event.Let’s look at the job of President and the duties and requirements of the President.

Presidential Job Description

When you weigh the duties of the President against the collective duties of Congress, it is clear that the ills of our nation fall to this body as well or to a higher degree than the job of Chief Executive. If we are to ever fix this nation’s ills and we have quite a few, then we need to insure that all parties involved are up to the task, doing it for the right reason – the benefit of the nation and not their own career advancement and an opportunity to make money. Change Congress if you want real change!
